Nandan Nilekani, who inaugurated the Bridge Briefing, a series of industry interactions in the school, said everybody—both government and corporate houses—need to address the aspiration of the young demography in the country. The chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India said (UIDAI) India needs “quality, scale and speed at the same time” to take education to the next level. Nilekani said there is need to explore blended learning models by creating a judicious mix of online and off-line offerings.
India has some great institutions such as the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), but the second-rung colleges are not that great, said Henry Bienen, former president of Northwestern University in the US.
Knowledge creation, dissemination and certification are three key factors of education and, at the Bridge School, there is a significant emphasis on knowledge creation, said Dipak C. Jain, former dean of Kellogg School of Management. “The opportunity is huge in India and HT is taking the right step,” said Jain, who was also a former dean of INSEAD, a French business school with campuses in France, Singapore and Abu Dhabi.
Mukesh Aghi, chief executive of L&T Infotech Ltd, and Adam Gutstein, vice-chairman of consulting firm PwC. participated in the event.
The aim is to bring quality education in an affordable manner, said Rajiv Verma, chief executive of HT Media and one of the board members of the school.
“We have focused heavily on investing in technology infrastructure and world-class content to ensure our students get a seamless, industry relevant learning experience,” said Rajesh Puri, chief executive of India Education Services.
By offering management courses designed “by the industry, from the industry and for the industry”, the institute aims to meet the education-employment mismatch in the country, it said in a statement.
BRIDGE School of Management has been established under India Education Services Pvt. Ltd, an equal joint venture between HT Media and US-based Apollo Global Inc.
